The results of germination tests
for individual varieties follows.
example: Mumsie- 55%; chipped 98% In this example 'Mumsie' is the
name of the variety. '55%' is the germination rate when the seeds
were untreated. 'chipped 98%' means we "chipped" the
seeds and retested them. If germination rate was satisfactory without
chipping we did not perform the additional test.
Some of our varieties are imported. All imported sweet peas are
required to be fumigated at the USA border. Ours are done in
Seattle. The people who do the job are wonderful people.
Unfortunately though, a consequence of fumigation is that the seeds
sometimes lose their viability. We test all of our seeds after
they are fumigated, and the numbers below reflect those tests. We
overfill all of our packages, which compensates for any loss of
viability..
Chipping is required for a few very hard coated seeds. |
